A Minimalist Farmhouse Sanctuary Above the City

This 4-room HDB resale renovation at 75B Redhill Road reimagines urban living through the lens of Minimalist Farmhouse interior design. Situated in the heart of Bukit Merah, this high-floor home was designed as a calm retreat from city life—balancing rustic warmth with modern restraint.

By blending natural materials, soft neutral tones, and clean architectural lines, the home transforms a standard Singaporean HDB layout into a serene, timeless sanctuary that feels both grounded and elevated.

Design Concept: Urban Farmhouse Reimagined for Singapore Living

For this approximately 100 sqm 4-room HDB, the homeowners envisioned a space that felt warm, breathable, and uncluttered. Our design approach bridges the gap between:

  • Farmhouse warmth: Wood textures, tactile fabrics, soft lighting

  • Minimalist discipline: Handleless carpentry, concealed storage, clean geometry

The result is a home that feels airy yet intimate, designed to age gracefully while supporting everyday living.

Strategic Space Planning for 4-Room HDB Flats

The Signature Arch: Softening the “HDB Box”

To counter the rigid geometry typical of 4-room HDB layouts, we introduced arched architectural elements throughout the home:

  • Recessed arched niches in the living area

  • A black-framed arched glass kitchen door, serving as both a functional divider and visual focal point

These curves soften the space while adding a distinct farmhouse identity without excessive ornamentation.

Invisible Functionality & Concealed Storage

Following the 2026 interior trend of “Air as a Design Element”, we prioritised visual lightness:

  • Floor-to-ceiling handleless built-in cabinetry

  • Concealed doors and flush carpentry (Pic-2374)

  • Storage solutions integrated seamlessly into walls

This allows the home to feel spacious, calm, and uncluttered—ideal for compact HDB living.

Zoned Connectivity for Singaporean Households

A glass partition between the dining area and kitchen (Pic-2482) preserves the open-plan flow while effectively containing cooking aromas. This practical zoning solution balances lifestyle needs with modern aesthetics.

Living & Dining Area: The Heart of the Home

Warm Textures, Natural Light

Spacious living room at 75B Redhill Road with a brown leather sectional sofa and layered sheer white curtains.
Integrated TV console and study desk with light wood finishes in a minimalist 4-room HDB living room.

The living space is anchored by a rich brown leather sectional sofa, introducing depth and warmth against the neutral backdrop. This is complemented by:

  • Light oak flooring

  • Sheer linen drapes that diffuse abundant natural light

  • A restrained colour palette that enhances spatial calm

Together, these elements create a welcoming communal area ideal for family time and entertaining.

Personalised Minimalism

Wide-angle view of a 4-room HDB living and dining area with light oak flooring and a glass kitchen door.

Minimalism here is not cold or impersonal. Recessed shelves feature curated personal touches, including a custom “Vidus iela” (Middle Street) sign and framed pet portraits—proof that minimalist interiors can still be deeply personal and emotionally resonant.

Kitchen Design: Farmhouse Calm with a Contemporary Twist

Two-Tone Kitchen Palette

Modern HDB kitchen design with pastel turquoise upper cabinets, light wood lowers, and a built-in gas stove.

Departing from all-white kitchens, this minimalist farmhouse kitchen features:

  • Light wood lower cabinets for warmth

  • Pastel turquoise/green upper cabinets for a fresh, modern accent

The soft colour contrast adds character while maintaining visual harmony.

Smart Appliance Integration

Contemporary HDB kitchen featuring pastel green cabinets, marble-look backsplash, and under-cabinet LED lighting.

Designed for both functionality and aesthetics, the kitchen includes:

  • Matte black range hood

  • Built-in three-burner gas stove

  • Clean-lined cabinetry that keeps the space clutter-free

Every detail supports daily cooking while preserving the kitchen’s calm, cohesive look.

Master Bedroom: Restful Refinement & Integrated Storage

The master bedroom continues the home’s minimalist farmhouse language with a focus on rest and functionality.

Built-In Wardrobe Design

Two-tone floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobe in a 4-room HDB bedroom using white and light wood laminates.

A two-tone full-height wardrobe blends seamlessly into the room:

  • Matte beige upper panels enhance brightness

  • Light wood grain lower panels echo the home’s material palette

  • Handleless detailing ensures a clean, hotel-like finish

Layered Lighting for Comfort

Warm LED strip lighting and minimalist reading lights provide soft illumination—essential for creating a “hotel-at-home” bedroom experience that feels calm and restorative.
